Funeral service for Edith Faye Combs will be 2 p.m., Wed., Jan. 19, at the Chelsea Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Edith died Sun., Jan. 16, 2011, at Rolling Hills Care Center, Catoosa, at the age of 92.
The daughter of Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Merriott was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Faxon. The family moved from southern Oklahoma to Lenapah. Edith, one of eleven children, helped her mom cook for the family. She attended Chelsea schools. Edith married Perry Walker Combs. They made their home in Chelsea, before moving to Lawton. They later moved back to Chelsea. Edith painted houses for her husband's construction company. She attended the Assembly of God in Chelsea. She loved to garden; and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and cooking.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Perry; parents; siblings: James, Othela, Woodrow, Haskell, Robert, and Eva; and infant siblings: Devasco, Leroy, and Dorothy.
She is survived by her son, Captain Jimmy Combs and wife, Judy of Chelsea; daughter, Mary Ruth Dawson and husband, Leon of Chelsea; brother, Paul Merriott of Claremore; grandchildren: Charles Dawson, Suzanne Caughran and husband, Sam, Marc Frailey and wife, Pepper, and Kevin Frailey and wife, Mandy, and great-grandchildren: Christopher Caughran, and Jacque, Cassie, Nate, and Tori Frailey.
