Service for Edward Ray "Ed" McGuire will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, July 13 from 1--8 pm, with family receiving visitors from 6--8 pm.
Ed was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on February 28, 1929 to Winfred Joel McGuire and Dollie Veoma (Massey) McGuire. He was the beloved husband to Marleta Jean (Mills) McGuire for 64 years.
A Claremore resident for nearly 70 years, Ed passed away July 11, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. An electrician by trade, he became an Electrical Contractor in Tulsa, retiring in 1987 as President of West Electric, Inc. He was responsible for many of Tulsa's commercial buildings, including the University Club Towers. During these years, Ed attained a Real Estate Broker license and purchased several of Claremore's historical properties, including the St. James Hotel.
Restoring antique automobiles and aircraft was his passion. The family favorites were his 1941 Fairchild airplane and the 1938 Packard Super 8 Gentleman's Coupe. Ed was very generous with his time to help friends with home, auto, or airplane needs.
Memberships included the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Antique Aircraft Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, Early Ford V8, and Antique Automobile Club of America.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Willie Winfred McGuire, and sister Myrtle May (McGuire) Harrington and his beloved canines Lucy, Mensa and Emma.
Survivors include his wife of the home, daughter Ellen Kay (McGuire) Stephens and husband Tom of Owasso and son Christopher Craig McGuire of Claremore; grandchildren Thomas Joel McGuire and wife Heather of Claremore and Hannah Christine (McGuire) Tawfik and husband Freddy of Thornton, Colorado; great grandchildren Teaghan Penelope, Cullen Edward and Donovan Joel McGuire.
