Memorial service for Edward C. Starkey will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy.
Ed passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at the age of 61.
The son of Clarence and Constance Robinson Starkey was born May 18, 1951 in New Martinsville, West Virginia. Ed attended school in West Virginia and Ohio before the family moved to Claremore. In November of 1969 at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf wars. His service also stationed him in many other places around the world such as Korea, and the Philippines. August 31, 1994 he retired as a master chief/master diver from the United States Navy after 26 years of service. December 9, 2002 he married Rowena Dela Rosa. They settled down in the Inola area. Ed was a man with a mean and rough exterior, but cared for everyone in one fashion or another. A man who called it like he saw it, who stood for what he believed in.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Constance Starkey; brothers, James Joseph "J.J." Starkey and Frederick Burl "Fred" Starkey; and sister, Judith Rose Starkey.
Survivors include his sister Joyce Marone of Claremore and a wife Rowena of the home, daughters, Amanda Starkey-Smith of Oologah, Georgina Starkey-Koster of Claremore, Angie Starkey-Widener of Virginia and a step-daughter Robby Gaile Sanje.
