Edythe Shearer Underwood died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the age of 90. She was born on September 30, 1919, in Wilmore, KS, to Beatrice and Clarence Shearer. After graduating from college, she taught school in Kansas. In 1942, she married James Adrian Underwood in Lake Charles, LA. Her husband was a flight instructor during World War II and the Korean Conflict. They lived in many states during his time in service. After his graduation from Phillips University Seminary, the family lived in Texas. In 1962, the family moved to Enid, OK, where Edythe resided until 1998.
Edythe moved to Claremore in 1998 to be closer to her daughters, Mary Beth Murray and Dee Dee Clark, and their families. She was a member of First Christian Church and Friends of the Library; and enjoyed reading.
Edythe is survived by her children: Mary Beth Murray and husband, A.G. of Claremore, Susan Kirtley of Houston, TX, Dee Dee Clark and husband, Barry of Claremore, and John Underwood and wife, Kelly of Enid; brother, Rex Shearer of Denham Springs, LA; grandchildren: Glenn, Andrew, Michael, Matt, and Dan Murray, Chris Kirtley, Madeline Clark, and Jennifer Chapman Crum; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Nancy James Chapman.

A graveside memorial service will be held in Waukomis, OK, for Edythe.
