Eletha Nell Johnston was born March 20, 1932 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Charles Oscar Hinds, Sr. and Martha Nell (Garrett) Hinds. She was reared and educated in Inola. On July 21, 1949 she married James Leon Johnston and together they made their home in Claremore and 3 children blessed this union. Eletha worked for Aunt Carrie’s Nursing home, which later became Wood Manor, first as a cook and later as a nurse after she earned her CMA license. Following her retirement from Wood Manor, she worked at Ginger Bread Day Care. She loved children and this was a way for her to spend time looking after those little ones.
Hobbies included crocheting, sewing and canning. She loved her family especially her grandchildren. She spoiled them often. During her years at the Milam building, she sold Avon to her neighbors and friends. Eletha was a member of the Church of God (Seventh Day) and loved worshiping with her friends there.
Those family members that survive include her children Larry Johnston and wife Patricia of Albany, Oregon, Connie James and husband Ricky of Inola and Tricia Conder of Claremore; her son-in-law Joe Bob Conder also of Claremore; her grandchildren Jason Johnston, Leah James, Kristin Gonzalez, Bradlee Scott, Michael Craig James, Amanda Brown, Chad Conder and Cortnie James; 15 great grandchildren; her brothers Charles Hinds, Jr. and wife Gail and Raymond Hinds and wife Wilma all of Claremore; and many nieces and nephews. Eletha was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, her brother Walter Henry Hinds, her sister Mary Green and two infant siblings.
Those who wish to honor Eletha with a memorial contribution may contribute to The Dover Family Camp, P.O. Box 164, Claremore, OK 74018. Make checks payable to Oklahoma Conference marked for Lane Event Center.
