Elnora Aileen Thorne

Funeral service for Elnora (Ee-ge-lo) Aileen Bigfeather Thorne will be 11 a.m., Fri., Oct. 15, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Gerald Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at the Thorne Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m.

Elnora went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Mon., Oct. 11, 2010, at the age of 98.
The daughter of Rider (Chu-nah-ke-lun-de) Bigfeather and Betty Jean "Peggy" (Qua-dy) Lot Bullet Murphy was born March 14, 1912, in Bunch in Adair County. Elnora attended and graduated from the Cherokee Orphan Training School (presently known as Sequoyah High School) in Tahlequah. She went on to Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, KS, to complete an Associate degree. On March 15, 1948, Elnora married Herbert Marion Thorne in Stilwell. Elnora loved taking care of her family and considered herself a homemaker and mother first, but she did do work outside of the home as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking; and was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary.

Elnora is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; sons: R.B. Hooper and Vernon Hooper; parents; brothers: Watie Bigfeather and Cicero Sixkiller; sisters: Dora Sixkiller, Mary Sixkiller, and Ganer (Ganie) Sixkiller; and grandson, Sonny Wayne Thorne.

She is survived by her sons: Conrad Hooper, Herbert W. "Sonny" Thorne and wife, Marcia, and George “Ricky” Thorne, all of Claremore; daughters: Verna (Hooper) Noble and husband, Dick of Bixby, Velma (Thorne) Harris and husband, Doug of Claremore, Cheryl (Thorne) Voss and husband, Edsel of Wagoner, Sharon (Thorne) Mathson and husband, Steve of Inola, 18 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
