Graveside service for Elvin Rooks will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Highland Cemetery in Inola. Rev. Victor Bishop will officiate. Burial will follow under the direction of Inola Funeral Home & Crematory.
Elvin passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at his home in Inola at the age of 78.
The son of Ardee and Opal Howerton Rooks was born April 11, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was raised in Tulsa, where he attended Springdale Elementary and Rogers High School. At the age of 15 Elvin joined the United States Army. However when the army realized he had lied about his age he was quickly discharged. He returned to Tulsa, and began working various jobs. A few years later while applying for a car loan, he met Margaret Wassom. They were married November 3, 1967 in Tulsa. In 1973 they moved to the Inola area. Elvin enjoyed living in the country. He was able to raise cattle and spend time in the outdoors. In 1987 Elvin retired from the L.A. King Corporation after many years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed stock car racing. At one time he built and owned his own car. His true love however was entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ardee and Opal and son, David Rooks.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of the home, daughters, Sharon of Africa, Janet Chasteen and husband Otto of Inola, and Debbie Aaron and husband Max of Inola; grandchildren, Chris Chasteen, Brynne Miller, Mandy Miller, Crystal Wall, and Sonja Essenger, and great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Tyler, Cody, Taylor, Justice, Morgan, Brandon, Tristan, Kailani, and Jaymin.
