Funeral service for Everett Lee Burd will be 2 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 5, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Dr. Ray Crawford officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Air Force will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6 to 8 p.m.
Everett died Sun., Jan. 1, 2012, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 85.
The son of Emmett Jefferson and Esther (Wood) Burd was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Claremore. Everett was raised in the Claremore area, attending Justus and Claremore schools. While at Claremore High School, Everett played basketball and was an all state player. He was considered by many as the finest all around player in all of Claremore. He graduated in 1945, and entered the U.S. Army Air Force. After his discharge he attended Oklahoma A&M on a basketball scholarship. On Dec. 23, 1945, Everett married his high school sweetheart, Hattie "Puddie" Allton at the First United Methodist Church. They made their home in Claremore. Everett went to work for American Airlines in 1949; and after 43 years of service he retired on October 1, 1991, as a fleet service crew chief. Everett enjoyed fishing and golfing; and loved watching sports.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Puddie; his parents; brothers: Floyd and Theo Burd; and sister, Billie Louise Scotton.
Everett is survived by his daughters: Randy Sue Chaney and husband, Cotton, and Renee Louis Attebury and husband, Ricky; sister, Virginia Key; grandchildren: Tammy Rawlings and husband, Brad, Terry Bauser, Tommy Bauser and wife, Keri Jo, Tricia Bauser, Michael Chaney, Rayna Johnson and husband, Scott, and Erika McKnight; 27 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
