Fay Alvin Whorton passed away January 27, 2011 at his home in Verdigris at the age of 86.
The son of George and Cora Dotson Whorton was born November 8, 1924 in Foyil, Oklahoma. As an infant he and his family moved to the Verdigris area. There he would later attend Verdigris schools. As he grew older he took on more and more of his families farming and ranching duties. It was on a business trip to Pryor, looking for a new tractor that he met Lois Clayton. They were married September 30, 1950 in Pryor. Fay continued his duties of running the farm. However it was the cattle the he enjoyed the most. He loved to raise show cattle, and would travel all over the country to show them or buy new stock. Red Poll cattle were his breed of choice, and he served as president of the state breed organization. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Cora; brother, Arthur Whorton, and grandson Caleb Alvin Whorton.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Lois Whorton; daughters: Lois Jean Giesecke and husband Robert of Locust Grove, and Deborah Lynne Heath and husband Don of Sugar Land, Texas; son, John Alvin Whorton and wife, Ethelyn of Verdigris; grandchildren: Bryan Giesecke, Michael Giesecke, and Jennifer Giesecke; and great-grandson, Braden Giesecke.
