Graveside service for Fred Frances Hilbert, Sr. will be 10 a.m., Tues., July 9, 2013 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rex Duncan officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. July 8, 2013 from 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Fred passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Oklahoma Heart Institute, Tulsa, at the age of 86.
The son of Elmer William and Mary Alpha (Haley) Hilbert was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Chelsea. He grew up in Verdigris, and helped on his family's farm from a young age. Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II. While on leave on Sept. 15, 1945, he married Ludy Marie Reavis. After he returned home they made their home in Tiawah. Ludy passed away in 1982. In May of 1984, Fred married Vila Lois Hughes. Fred was active in the community. He served on the Tiawah School Board for several years, and as the Fire Chief for the Tiawah Fire Department. Fred enjoyed being outdoors trapping for fur, quail hunting, dove hunting, frog hunting, and camping. Most of all, he enjoyed fishing.
Fred is survived by his wife, Vila of Sioux City, Iowa; children: Ella Marie (Shatto) Chasteen and husband, Roy of Mannford, Freda Mae (Hilbert) Leach of Keifer, Patricia Ann (Hilbert) Littlefield of Claremore, Carolyn Sue (Hilbert) Lanier and husband, Edward of Claremore, and Kathern Lavern (Hilbert) Warson of Foyil; step-children, Vida Kunkel and husband Darrell of Sioux City, Iowa, Trudy Stonebarger and husband Larry of Claremore, and Cheri Kurtz and husband Gary of Correctionville, Iowa; sister, Alma "Jean" McKay and husband, Bill of Eucha; 25 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ludy; his parents; Elmer and Mary Hilbert; son, Fred Frances Hilbert, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Loretta Ann (Toon) Hilbert; sons-in-law: Richard Vernon Duncan, Sr., Richard Charles Littlefield, and Olen Ray Leach; brother, Robert Hilbert;
sisters: Orean Poor, Ora Cherry, and Lena Rathers;
grandson, Richard Vernon Duncan Jr. ; and great-granddaughter, Sara Ann Hilbert.
