Funeral service for Fred W. Rawson will be held 2:00 p.m., Mon., February 14, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Sageeyah Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sun. 1-6 p.m.
Fred passed away February 9, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 77.
The son of Randolph and Bessie (Parson) Rawson was born November 4, 1933, in Stark County, MO. As a young boy he and his family moved to western Oklahoma. He lived there until around the age of 10, when they moved to Medford, OR. There he attended school and later joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy his passion for flying began. Upon his discharge he moved to Tulia, TX. There he met Winnie M. McPherson. They were married July 26, 1967. They continued living in Tulia where Fred worked as a cropduster. In 1967, he moved to Oklahoma to further his aviation career. He took a job at the Tulsa Technology Center; where he would eventually become the director of the aviation mechanic department. He retired in 1991. His hobbies included working with lathes, stain glass, and wood.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Bessie; son, Brian Rawson; granddaughter, Sarah McDrummond; and brothers: Wayne and Edson Rawson.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie of the home; daughters: Deanna Smith and husband, Tim of Claremore, and Denise McDrummond and husband, Matt of Inola; son, Darrin Rawson and wife, Rebecca of Lenexa, KS; sister, Wanda Giacomini of Medford, OR; and grandchildren: Tyler, Kayla, and Emma Leigh McDrummond, Zack and Abby Smith, and Alexander Rawson.
