Memorial service for Freddie Lee McCurdy will be held 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 14, at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, Claremore. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Fri., Sept. 20, at Canton Cemetery, Canton, OK. Freddie will be buried near his beloved family members.
He passed away Fri., Sept. 6, 2013, in Langley, OK, of an apparent heart attack at the age of 52.
Freddie was born on Sept. 8, 1960, in Thomas, OK. He moved to Hanford, CA, with his family in 1963. Freddie attended school in California before moving back to Oklahoma with his family in 1976. They moved to Claremore where he grew up and attended Sequoyah High School. Freddie was a fan of Elvis Presley collecting many of his recordings. He worked in construction for many years until health problems forced him to slow down. Freddie worked for his dad at McCurdy Construction Company on numerous jobs. He was very close to his family enjoying all the trips fishing, camping, and sightseeing that the family took. He was close to his brothers whom he loved very much. Freddie loved the Lord and was baptized at a young age. He had a loving compassionate heart loving his friends and pets.
Freddie was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Shawn McCurdy; grandparents: Roscoe and Lillian McCurdy of California; grandfather, Robert Hicks; special uncle, Dean Reed; special great-grandmother, Cleo Reed; and special great-great-grandmother, Ora Garl.
He is survived by his parents: Rita Carol and Floyd McCurdy of Claremore, and Fred Schimmels and wife, Filma of Oklahoma City; brothers: Eric McCurdy and wife, Lisa of Claremore, and Christopher McCurdy of Dallas, TX; niece, Sarah McCurdy of Claremore; nephew, Tyler McCurdy of Claremore; sisters: Marcy and Maria, and their families of Oklahoma City; grandmother, Ora Rooker of Canton, OK; special friends, Tony Lewis of Claremore, and Kim Shelton of Claremore; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
