Funeral service for Frederick Burl "Fred" Starkey will be 10 a.m., Thurs., Aug. 2, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Fred died Mon., July 30, 2012, at his home at the age of 65.
The son of Clarence Mack and Constance Florence (Robinson) Starkey was born Jan. 11, 1947, in New Martinsville, WV. Fred attended school in West Virginia and Ohio before the family moved to Claremore. Fred graduated from Claremore High School in 1965, and continued his education at Okmulgee Tech. On Nov. 29, 1969, Fred married Donna Putnam. They were divorced, and on May 18, 1985 he married Betty Howard. Fred worked as a machinist for Burgess-Norton retiring in 2011. He also helped his friend, Larry Dunaway, at Justus schools by helping to maintain the buildings and bus fleet for many years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his dogs, and working on cars.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents and brother- James Joseph "J.J. Starkey.
He is survived by his children: Mike Starkey and fiancee, Stephanie; Selena Wells and fiancé, John; and Jared Starkey; brother, Edward Clarence Starkey; and grandchildren: Sabrina Bilbrey, Rae Starkey, Logan Starkey, Riley Anne Starkey, and one granddaughter on the way.
