Memorial service for Gary Albert Vanasse will be 1:30 p.m., Fri., April 1, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel.
Gary passed away Sun., March 27, 2016, at Hillcrest Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 64.
The son of Maurice Albert Vanasse and Rita Lucy (Tanguay) Vanasse was born Feb. 6, 1952, in Central Falls, RI. Gary graduated from Gahr High School in Artesia, CA, where he played basketball and tennis. He continued his education at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA, where he majored in music. After college he played lead guitar in a local band. In 1973, Gary married Hidie Lynn Hurst at Holy Family Catholic Church in Artesia, CA. They made their home in Bell Flower, CA, for 18 years. Gary worked for Rockwell for 39 years as a manufacturing engineer. He was transferred to Tulsa in 1991, and the family made their home in Claremore. In 2014, Gary went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Gary loved being with his family and playing guitar with his son and grandson. He taught his children many skills through the years including his love of woodworking. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and cooking. Gary was a member of the Elk's Lodge and looked forward to karoake nights.
He is preceded in death by his son, Gary Roger Vanasse; his parents; and brother, Roger Vanasse.
Gary is survived by his wife, Hidie of the home; children: Danielle Lynn Wasserman and Matthew Paul Vanasse and wife, Ashley all of Claremore; sisters: Shirley Householder and husband, Robert, and Gail Kelemen and husband, Steve all of California; and grandchildren: Kevin, Kyle, and Nathan Wasserman, and Jackson and Matthew Vanasse.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Gold4Kids Cancer Foundation of Tulsa, P.O. Box 905, Coweta, OK 74429.
