Gene Davenport

Funeral service for Alfred "Gene" Davenport will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Fri. 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Gene passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his home in Inola at the age of 62.

The son of Barney and Eula Pilgrim Davenport was born December 3, 1952 in Umatilla, Oregon. At a young age his family moved to southern Oklahoma settling in the Blocker area. When he became old enough to attend school he attended Blocker elementary, and Quinton High School graduating in 1970. After graduation he enrolled at Okmulgee Technical college and graduated in 1971. August 16 of 1971 Gene married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Vines. They made their home in Ponca City where he was working at the refinery. Later they moved to Tulsa, then finally to Inola in December of 1982. At this time in his life he had became one of the areas best framers. So his work took him to many places in the tri state area. By the mid 1980's he had began his own company, and was building houses in the Inola area. In his spare time Gene had many hobbies that he loved. Hunting, vehicle restoration, wood working, and knife making were just a few. However fishing, and medal detecting were probably his favorite.

He is preceded in death by his mother Marie Davenport, and sister, Barbara Miller.

Survivors include his wife Ruth of the home, Sons, Brian Davenport, Ryan Davenport and wife Rachel and Nathan Davenport all of Inola; grandchildren, Caden, Ella and Gavin Davenport; father, Barney Davenport of McAlester, and sisters, Judy Peevey and Sheila Thomas of McAlester.
