George Alvaro Lara passed away peacefully on January 4th, 2021, at the age of 85. He was born to Alvaro and Maria del Carmen Lara in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 28, 1935. George lived his life to the very fullest and accomplished many things throughout his life. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1953.
George had a bicycle newspaper route from the age of 12 until graduating from Jesuit. After studying engineering for 2 years at LSU, he enlisted in the Army and served his country proudly. During this time, he met the love of his life, Dottie. They married on July 13, 1957. They had their first 5 children while he was finishing his education. It took him 10 years to earn his Chemical Engineering degree from USL. He later earned his Masters in Business Administration. They had their 6th and final child in 1974.
He began working at Sun Oil / Tosco Refinery in Duncan for 20+ years until it closed. He later worked as the head of the Energy department at Fort Sill.
After the age of 65, George started substituting on a regular basis for Duncan, Marlow, and Lawton public schools where he influenced and inspired many students' lives. George truly loved teaching.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie, his six children Betsy Chavez, George A. Lara Jr. ,Mary Guffey, Scot Lara, Lynne Baldwin, Amy Tidwell, 34 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
