George Martin Peper

November 25, 1928 — December 16, 2020

George Martin Peper passed from this life, December 16, 2020 at home with his family by his side. George was born November 25, 1928 in Adair, Ok to George Ernest and Lydia (Ruppel) Peper. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Adair. He later graduated from the Lutheran Church School. George went on to serve in the Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.
George married the love of his life, Leona Ray (Holt) Peper, on May 31, 1953. Their union was gifted with three sons and one daughter.
George farmed and ranched his whole life. He was such a great farmer that it was said, “He could plant corn in the middle of the road, and it would still grow.” He and his family were awarded Farm Family of the Year for Mayes County in 1974 and 1999. He spent many, many years teaching his kids and grandkids how to farm and work hard. After wheat harvest and hay season were complete, the family would take a much-needed vacation. Sometimes the trip would go West to the Rocky Mountains or East to visit family in Wisconsin. When George wasn’t farming, you might find him swimming with his grandkids, or on a trip to Branson with his wife and grandkids. He enjoyed the Branson shows and Silver Dollar City.
Through the seasons of his life, he served as a trustee of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and an active officer in the Chelsea Round-Up Club. George also served on the Mayes County Rural Water District #5 Board for 45 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lydia Peper, wife Leona, and siblings Gary Peper and Lambert Peper.
