Funeral service for George Franklin Tally will be 2 p.m., Wed., Dec. 29, at First United Methodist Church with Revs. Eugene Vanbeber and Eugene VanAlstyne officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
George died Sat., Dec. 25, 2010, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 69.
The son of Jessee Perry and Ruth (Huffman) Tally was born May 21, 1941, in Wymona. He grew up in Locust Grove and graduated from Locust Grove High School in 1959. On June 18, 1962, George married Maxine Vanbeber in Chouteau. They made their home in Pryor before moving to Inola in 1963. George served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He owned George’s Barber Shop for many years, retiring in 2001. He reopened the shop in 2008. George truly loved his customers and friends. One of the reasons he enjoyed his work so much, was the opportunity he had to talk with his friends. He will truly be missed. George’s hobbies included reading, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a 17 year member of the Inola Lion’s Club, and helped his wife with her activities with the Camp Fire organization.
George was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Linda Reese.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of the home; son, Kenneth James Tally and wife, Dianna of Duncan; daughter, Georgetta Dollar and husband, Ronald of Green Forest, AR; grandchildren: Joshua Tally and Dylan Tally of Duncan, Ronald Dollar of the Coast Guard in West Virginia, and Christina Ross and Nakita Dollar of Green Forest, AR; niece, Rhonda McLearan of Blue Springs, MO; nephews: Tyler and Travis McLearan of Blue Springs, MO; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
