Glenna Jean Hefner

Graveside services for Jean Hefner will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 14^th at Dawes Cemetery. Scott Barger will be officiating. Friends are invited to visit the funeral home on Thursday, April 13^th from 1-8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6-8pm.

Glenna ‘Jean’ Hefner was born on July 19^th, 1941, on the outskirts of Chelsea to Glen and Lucy Hefner. Being preceded only by her older sister, Juanita, she was quickly put to work taking care of her later siblings – Carl, George, Danny, Shirley, Rhonda, and Kathy – in order of age, if not difficulty. Never straying too far from her family for too long, she would ultimately settle in Chelsea, have three kids of her own, and work in the kitchen at the Colonial Care Center for nearly 25 years before it would shutter its doors.

Jean passed away from cancer at ‘The Journey Home’ hospice in Bartlesville on Thursday, April 6th, after discovering that it was both a nonsmoking facility and that they carried only Coke products. She was 81. She was grateful to finish living out all but the final few hours of her life in the home she had lived for nearly 30 years due to the loving help provided by her sisters and a crew of in-home hospice workers. She’ll be missed greatly for her always-open door, feisty attitude, wry grin, and unreasonably good potato salad, among many other qualities.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Sandra Maggard; sisters Juanita Conrad, Shirley Steidley, Rhonda Hefner, and Kathy Fritzjunker; brother and sister-in-law George and Arlene Hefner; brother Danny Hefner; grandson Terry Hefner Jr.; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen & Lucy Hefner; brother Carl Hefner; sons Terry Hefner and James Brown Jr.; and grandson Cory Batt.
