Gordon Eli Grimes

Gordon Eli Grimes passed away on August 31, 2024, at the age of 71. 

Gordon was born on November 14, 1952, in Pryor, OK to Walter "Tooter" and Maxine (Ingram) Grimes. Gordon grew up in the Inola area and attended Inola High School graduating with the class of 1971. Gordon began working as a mechanic straight out of school and worked as a mechanic for his entire life. He worked for Bill North, Mike Bynum, and Dent Vaught for many years before becoming self employed as a mechanic from his home. Gordon was always known to be fair with his business and never overcharged and was often accused of undercharging his customers to make sure they were taken care of. He was a kind man and was loved by many people in the Inola area. You knew when you were his friend but also knew when you weren't. 

Gordon enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Gordon could fix about anything and enjoyed getting to do it. He enjoyed hanging out with his cronies and telling tall tales around a cup of coffee. Gordon enjoyed people and loved getting to spend time with his friends and family. 

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tommy Grimes, and nephew, Tony Grimes. 

He is survived by his sisters, Theresa Jones and husband Jim of Claremore and Shiela Barrett and husband Doug of Claremore; nieces, Melissa Rochetti and husband Tommy of Tennessee, Kim Vanhooser of Oregon, and Alicea Hibbard and husband Justin of Claremore; nephew, Kevin Barrett and wife Robin of Claremore; grand nieces, Natalie and Maddie; grand nephews, Jack, Canyon and Alex and sister in-law, Betty Grimes of Tennessee. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Betty Jo Tennison for enabling Gordon to come home by staying with him. Betty cared for Gordon when was a baby and in his last days. They would also like to thank the Town of Inola for all the visits and food provided to Gordon and his family during this time.
