Gordon Lee Powell

Funeral services for Gordon Powell will be held on January 31, 2025, at 11:00am at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, from 1:00-6:00pm with family greeting friends from 4:00-6:00pm. Gordon passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of 83.

Gordon Lee Powell was born on May 14, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee, to James and Billie (McBride) Powell. He grew up in Millington, Tennessee, and attended school there. As a young boy, Gordon worked hard, starting as a paperboy and later working at a gas station and movie theater.

In March of 1961, Gordon met the love of his life, Wanda McMillen, on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. Wanda spoke to him on the phone first to make sure he was a good guy. They married on June 5, 1961, and began a beautiful life together.

In the late 1960s, Gordon started working for Power & Telephone Supply company, which later transferred him and his family to Oklahoma in 1972. He worked there until he retired.

Gordon had a love for fishing, fixing old cars and trucks, riding his Harley, and traveling. He enjoyed trips to Sturgis, Smoky Mountains, Eastern Oklahoma and the Ozarks. He also loved shooting pool, and cooking his famous smoked ribs. Gordon and Wanda especially loved spending time in Florida. Most of all, he cherished his family and loved being with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Ricky and Rodney; his brother, James Powell; and his nephew, Michael Powell.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wanda Powell; his son, Randy Powell and wife Teresa; his daughter-in-law, Becky Powell; his sister, Sandra Paulette Jones; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
