Gregory Robert Tacker, 60, of Verdigris began his eternal life on Thursday, June 9th, 2022.
Greg was born on May 22nd, 1962 in Claremore to Robert and Shirley (Connor) Tacker. He attended Verdigris schools and later Claremore High School. During his time at school, he made many friends playing sports, being an active FFA member and showing dairy cattle. When he wasn’t helping on the family dairy, Greg was exploring the countryside and river bottom of Verdigris with his cousins and friends hunting, fishing, and “staying out of trouble”.
After high school, Greg attended Oklahoma State University. At OSU, he could be found working on the school dairy farm, traveling to compete on the dairy livestock judging team, and of course, cheering for his Cowboys. Stillwater brought Greg many friends and his life-long best friend, his wife Wendy. The two were married on July 22nd, 1989, and returned home to the family farm. Greg farmed alongside his dad and continued to raise high-quality dairy cattle and operate the family’s dairy, while also farming soybeans, alfalfa, and hay.
Family was everything to Greg and he loved being involved in anything with his two kids- Ashley and Logan. He coached their ball teams and supported their shared love of the agricultural industry through showing livestock. The family traveled the country chasing the kids’ various ball games, national livestock shows, and catching any OSU sporting event possible.
As a third-generation dairy farmer, his love for the industry came naturally. Greg was known among friends as someone who had an eye for the best and raised high quality show animals. He traveled nationwide picking up banners, plaques and gaining lasting friendships along the way. From Madison to Louisville, some of his greatest accomplishments included several World Dairy Expo class winners, numerous state and regional show champions, as well as premier breeder and exhibitor honors. The family was also named Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farm Family of the Year in 1997.
Greg retired from milking in 2001, but his love for the industry and desire to win never faded. He will be remembered for helping countless youth experience the lasting benefits of showing livestock.
His love language was food and he shared this love with others through preparing meals and special dinner outings. He was always ready with a small-town café recommendation and knew the best places for a slice of pie.
Greg never met a stranger and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Shirley Tacker and Sister Nancy.
His legacy is continued by his wife Wendy, daughter Ashley Gaff and husband Dakota of Nash, son Logan Tacker, and fiancé Kalee of Stillwater, brother Stan Tacker of Verdigris, nephews Brian and Galt of Tulsa, and newest pride and joy, grandson Bowen Gaff. Greg will also be remembered by numerous extended family and friends.
