Service for Henry Lee Sunday, Sr. will be 1:00 p.m., Monday April 3, 2017, at Round Springs Baptist Church in Eucha, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Round Springs Cemetery. Henry passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017. He was 90 years old.
Born May 13, 1926, in Eucha, Oklahoma, to Levi and Sally (Cochran) Sunday, Henry attended schools in Eucha and Seneca Indian School. He enlisted first with the U.S. Army, and after he served his duties, he enlisted with the U.S.Navy. He proudly served his country and was awarded a Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, and the American Campaign Medal. In 1949 Henry married the love of his life, Mary Teehee, and the couple made their first home in Jay. Later they moved to California. He began working for P.S.O., and the family moved to Tulsa, then Broken Arrow before moving to Claremore, and this has been home since. Henry retired from P.S.O. in 1985 and has enjoyed a long retirement.
His hobbies were many; Henry enjoyed fishing, being outside, carpentry and electrical work. Gardening and planting trees was also something Henry loved to do. Very creative, he could play the guitar and fix just about anything. His favorite baseball team was the St. Louis Cardinals and he enjoyed watching their games as often as he could. Henry loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was baptized at a young age. Henry enjoyed family gatherings and could pray a beautiful prayer in Cherokee.
This loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend with a great since of humor will be missed by those who loved him. Survivors include his wife Mary, of 68 years; his children, Laverda Bohanon and husband Terry of Tahlequah, Louise Imerbthama and husband Tavin of Owasso, Susie Sunday, Julie Welch and husband John, and Patricia Lawson, all of Claremore; daughter-in-law, Kristie Babb Sunday; 13 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; and 6 great- grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, sons Henry Sunday, Jr. and Dewey Sunday; his siblings John Sunday, Jimmy Sunday, Nelly Henson, Agnes Hair, and Eliza Hummingbird.
