Funeral service for Eli “Houston” McAnelly will be 10 a.m., Sat., Nov. 30, at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel, Claremore, with Pastor Jeff Gaunt officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Sat., at Seabolt Cemetery, near Short, OK. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Fri. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Houston passed away Tues., Nov. 26, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 83.
The son of Jess Monroe and Myrtle (London) McAnelly was born June 14, 1930, in Stilwell, OK. He worked most of his life as a truck driver. Houston made his home in California and Claremore, before moving to Tulsa where he has lived for the past several years. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, and loved watching his favorite baseball team, St. Louis Cardinals.
Houston was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Earlene Hunter; his parents; and siblings: Eugene McAnelly, Edith Curry, and Arthur McAnelly.
He is survived by his wife, Louise (Goff) McAnelly of the home; children: Linda Knight of Tulsa, Brenda Shaw of Tulsa, Glenda Green and husband, John of Tahlequah, and Richard McAnelly and wife, Lisa of Tulsa; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and siblings: George W. McAnelly of Sutter, CA, Margaret Aguero of Elk Grove, CA, and Virgie Stoner of Tulare, CA.
