Howard Herbert Huff

Graveside service for Howard Herbert Huff will be 2 p.m., Fri., April 12, at Ingersoll Family Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-6 p.m., and family will greet friends 4-6 p.m.

Born in 1918 in Hamilton, Ohio to Taylor Huff and Orlena Bailey Huff. Howard spent his school years in Hamilton and in 1940 married Hazel Howard. They had three children, Howard Sanford Huff and Glenda Kay Huff born in Hamilton, Ohio and Martha Jo Huff who was born after they moved to Oklahoma in 1951.

Howard worked in the insurance business after moving to Oklahoma. He worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, John Hancock and Phoenix Mutual. He retired from Phoenix Mutual in 1982 after 32 years with the company.

After retirement, he and Hazel traveled extensively. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His greatest joy was his family. He loved to play board games and trivia games and was very sharp witted and to this day remains undefeated in checkers. One of his favorite past times in earlier years was fishing and feeding the catfish in his stocked pond, an activity he enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren.

Howard was a lifetime member in the Masonic Order and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a very active member of the Claremore Jr. Chamber of Commerce in the 1950’s. The group was responsible for building the city swimming pool and the Claremore Hospital which belonged to the city of Claremore at the time. He was a member of the Claremore 1st United Methodist Church.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Hazel, by 8 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by 1 brother, Whitey Huff of Middletown Ohio, daughter Dr. Jo Myers of Inola, daughter Kay Ingersoll and husband Win of Inola and son Howard “Sandy” Huff and wife Bobbie of Tulsa. Grandchildren Joleta Ingersoll, Wendy Keener and husband Dee Keener, Jenni Friederich and husband Jason Freiderich, James Myers and wife Cynthia Myers, Scott Huff and Jeff Myers and his wife Gina Myers. Great Grandchildren include Razz Keener, Radley Keener, Walt Spurlock, Bryce Spurlock, Laura Friederich, Alex Friederich, Josie Myers, Julia Myers, Abby Lasiter, Sarah Lasiter and many other extended family members.
