Irene Winters Chambers was born on October 2, 1922 in Mazie, Mayes County, Oklahoma to Freeda Stanberry Winters and Martin Ray Winters. She passed this life on February 6, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a short illness.
Irene was raised in Claremore, Ok., by her Grandparents, Emma & John Stanberry. She was a graduate of Claremore High
School in1940. She was married to Jack Parker Chambers who preceded her in death. They made their home in Claremore until 1950 and moved to New Orleans, LA. Irene worked for Chrysler Corporation as a clerk.
In 1953, they moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1954, she was employed by Ventaire Corporation for 38 years and retired as a Corporate Secretary in 1992.
In 1966 Irene joined Tulsa Chapter of NSA (National Secretaries Association, now the International Association of Administrative Professionals, IAAP). On the Chapter level Irene served on all committees and all offices. She served on many committees on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Division level as well. In 1976 Irene was selected to serve as the "A-O Division Secretary of the Year." In 1989, 23 years after joining the association, Irene's steady involvement, participation and commitment to the association was recognized when fellow members named her "Tulsa Chapter Outstanding Member of the Year. "Remaining a pro-active member for 42 years, Irene wrote and presented "Horoscope Humor" in which she used her knowledge of the stars and recognized member's birthdays, advising them of the "good days" and "not so good days" they would experience in their birthday month. Irene never missed a monthly Chapter meeting until health issues intervened in 2008.
Irene was a member of the Magic City Chapter No. 462 Order of the Eastern Star for 30 years in Tulsa.
Preceded in death her parents, Step Mother Ethel Winters, grandparents, Sister, Lois Patton, and
Grandson, Charles Allen Haddock, II.
She is survived by her children, Ron Chambers, Broken Arrow, Ok, Glenda Cranson of home and Pee Wee Cranson, Cleveland, Ok., Grandchildren: David Chambers, Tulsa, Ok, Julie and Darren Hall, Katy, TX., Great Grandchildren: Tate, Mackenzie and Audrey Hall, Katy, TX., Anthony and Aaron Chambers, Tulsa, Ok. Sisters, Eva Perry of Tulsa, and Betty Jean Winters of Muskogee, Brother, Glen Winters, Sr., Pryor, Ok, and many other relatives and close friends.
Viewing will be held Wednesday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Musgrove Merriott Smith Funeral Home, Claremore, Ok. Services will be on Thursday at 2:00pm under the direction of Musgrove Merriott Smith Funeral Home, Claremore, Ok.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Clarehouse, Tulsa, Ok.
