Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday, May 11, from 1pm-6pm, with family receiving visitors from 4pm-6pm. Jossie passed away on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019. She was 101.
Born March 12, 1918 in Peggs, Oklahoma to James Shannon and Mary Catherine (Rosenthal) Lewis, Jossie attended school in Peggs. She lived on a farm and learned from an early age the meaning of a good day's work. She, along with her sisters, prepared meals and kept the garden, while her brothers and dad worked the land. In 1941, she married Everett Dick. The couple made their home first on a farm in Chelsea, Oklahoma, moving later to Mingo, OK and then Broken Arrow. Claremore became home in 1953, and they raised their children here.
Jossie's first priority was taking care of her family. She was there for them at every step of their lives. She loved to cook, and when you were at Jossie's home, you never went away hungry. Her fried chicken, meat loaf, and apple pie were some of her family's favorites. Jossie enjoyed gardening and quilting. Her vegetable garden was meticulously kept and produced a bountiful crop that she shared with friends. Each of her children and grandchildren were recipients of one of her handmade quilts. Jossie was always helping where she could. Her church was also an important part of her life. She taught Sunday school for many years, and helped with Vacation Bible School. When the grandchildren began to arrive, she was most eager to help with their raising.
This loving and nurturing lady leaves behind her beloved family. Those who survive include her children Wayne Dick and wife Bessie of Auburn, Kentucky, Karen Smith, Marvin Dick and wife Beth, all of Claremore, and DeAnna Leigh and husband Doug of Spokane Washington; her 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great- grandchildren.
Jossie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett Dick, son Dennis Joe Dick, son-in-law Kenneth Smith, granddaughter Shawna Dick, six brothers and four sisters.
