Funeral service for Iris Mildred Martin Holman will be 1:30 p.m., Thurs., July 31, at Octavia Baptist Church, Smithville, with her grandson, Jeff Martin, officiating. Burial will follow at Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 4-7 p.m., and Thurs. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Octavia Baptist Church.
Mildred passed away Sat., July 26, 2014, at Inola Health Care Center at the age of 94.
The daughter of John Fredrick and Minnie Camilla (Bond) Rone was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Ethel, MS. They moved to Oklahoma by train when she was 3 years old. On July 17, 1937, Mildred married Homer Rowe Martin. After he passed away she married L.V. Holman on Jan. 1, 1988. Mildred was a great marksman with a 22 rifle, and won blue ribbons at the county fairs for quilting. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, and crocheting.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husbands; sisters; Laura Hendricks and Lavern VanDyke; and brothers: Gordan, Donald, John, Allan, Hugh, Nash, and Jesse Rone.
She is survived by her children: Walter "Butch" Martin and wife, Liz of Inola, Mary Eleanor Jones and husband, Larry of Skwentna, AK, and Nancy Iris Johnson and husband, W.D. of Inola; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Pearson of Idabel; and special friends: Don Allen Hopper and wife, Olene of Smithville, and Doug Williams and Jan Jones of Idabel.
