Funeral service for John Delno “J.D.” Karr will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
J.D. died Sat., March 20, 2010, at his home at the age of 86.
The son of Landon Porter and Pearl Evelyn (Butler) Karr was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Cushing. J.D. graduated from Foyil High School in 1941 as Valedictorian. He was drafted out of Spartan into the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served during World War II training pilots and as an instrument specialist. After his discharge in 1946, J.D. took advantage of the GI program in agriculture. On March 29, 1960, he married Patty Jean Williams in Chelsea. They made their home in Rogers County before moving to Craig County in 1963. J. D. was a banker and a rancher, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, numerous cattle organizations; and a past member of the Chelsea Lion’s Club. He served 16 years on the Rogers County Fair Board. J.D. enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening.
J.D. is preceded in death by his wife, Patty; his parents; sisters: Mary Sue Smithey, Wilma Lee Rader, and Elizabeth Jane “Janie” Ford.
He is survived by his siblings: Glendine Brinker and husband, Joe of Claremore, and Thomas L. Karr and wife, Mary of Foyil; sisters-in-law, Joyce Dahlke of Oklahoma City, June Allen and husband, Virgil of Oklahoma City, and Cozie Bernal and husband, Gab of Parsons, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
