Jack Martin

Funeral service for Howard Walton "Jack" Martin will be 11 a.m., Tues., July 27, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jay McAlister officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of Chelsea Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-7 p.m.

Jack died Sat., July 24, 2010, at his home at the age of 87.

The son of Cliff and Rebecca (Dodson) Martin was born June 10, 1923, in Catale, OK. Jack played football for Chelsea High School, and graduated in 1941. He received a football scholarship at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Jack served from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge he made his home in Vista, CA. Jack worked in carpentry and maintenance. He retired from Vista School District in 1986. On May 23, 2007, he married Ella Dean (Mullins) Martin in Vista. They moved to Chelsea in 2009. Jack was a member of EBC of Vista and attended First Baptist Church in Chelsea. He was a member of the Veterans of San Diego; and enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, and gardening.

Jack is preceded in death by his first wife, Irene (Skaggs) Martin; daughter, Gaye Martin; parents; brothers: Cecil, Gene, and John Martin; and sister, Margaret Estes.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Dean; daughter, Jennifer Martin; grandson, Sean Martin; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
