Services for James M. Dudley, Jr. will be 10:00a.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Claremore Assembly of God Church, pastor Dave Mewbourne will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, September 28 from 1pm--8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm--8pm. James passed away at his home with family by his side on Friday, September 25, 2015. He was 73.
James Monroe Dudley, Jr. was born January 11, 1942 in Tiawah to James Monroe Dudley, Sr and Francis Algen (Turner) Dudley. He started his education at Harmony Star, then his family moved to Claremore when he was 8 years old and he finished there, graduating with the class of 1961. James was a paper boy while he attended school. He also helped his dad in the family owned business, Dudley Produce.
On June 4, 1965, James married the love of his life, Peggy C. Purkey. Right from the start, he made it his number one priority to make her happy. They made their home first in Sapulpa and in 1973 they bought property in Mannford and together built their home. James worked for ONG for a time, then in 1965 he started a 35 year career with PSO. He began working as their building engineer and later he became an engineering draftsman.
James had many hobbies, fishing, gardening, wood working, riding horses and motorcycles. He loved spending time with family and friends and he never met a stranger. James loved to laugh and he enjoyed making you laugh with a joke or two.
A wonderful husband, brother and friend, James will be missed by all who knew him. Those family members that survive include his wife Peggy of their home; his sisters Joyce Shatto and husband Joe of LaGrange, Texas and Barbara Tisdale and husband Jerry of Sarasota, Florida; his brother Dr. Paul L. Dudley of Thousand Oaks, California; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Julia and Paul Kinzer and sister-in-law Wegie Sumter all of Claremore; 7 nieces and 10 nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents.
