Memorial service for James Edward "J.E." Garrett will be 2 p.m., Sat., at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel, 102 W. 5th St., Claremore, OK. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army.
Jim died Wed., July 13, 2011, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 85.
The son of C.B. and Eva Alice Garrett was born June 26, 1926, in Harrah. Jim was awarded the Junior Master Farmer Degree in 1944, and graduated from Nobel High School. Jim served in the U.S. Coast Guard, US Merchant Marine, and U. S. Army before the age of 21, in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. After World War II, Jim moved to Rogers County where he continued farming and ranching, teaming with other community leaders to introduce numerous agricultural innovations. Jim retired after 25 years as the Chief Inspector of Engineering for the City of Tulsa.
Jim is preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Moton; his brother, Ben; and his son, Danny Ray.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gerri; his sons: Larry, Robert and James; daughters: Stephanie and Christy; and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
