James Edward Reed

Funeral service for James Edward "Jay" Reed will be 11 a.m., Fri., May 20, at Destiny Life Church, Owasso, with Pastors Glenn Shaffer and Jeremy Donovan officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory.

Jay died Sun., May 15, 2011, at his home at the age of 83.

The son of James Edward Reed, Sr. and Elizabeth Angeline (McCord) Reed was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was raised in the Sequoyah area and attended 1st through 12th grade at Sequoyah schools. One summer while visiting the local ice cream shop he met Betty Jo Marlin. They were married on March 21, 1947. Jay became employed with Oklahoma Natural Gas. After 37-1/2 years of employment Jay retired as an Area Regional Marketing Manager. He and Betty then moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico. Then in 2004 they moved back to the Tulsa area. His hobbies include sitting on his patio watching purple martins, gardening, woodworking, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth; wife of 61 years Betty; and sisters, Geri, Edith, Edna, Bea, and Gazelle.

Survivors include his children: Dr. Darryl Reed and wife, Malinda of Claremore, LaDonna Nichols and husband, Joe of Owasso, Randy Reed and wife, Kellie of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Reed of the home, and Tammy Stein and husband, Dave of Hobbs, New Mexico; grandchildren: Ashley Reed, Jordan Reed and wife, Stormy, Bailey Reed, Jayme Vincent and husband, Dalton, Jeremy Nichols and wife Amanda, Amy D'Angelo and husband Jon, Brandon Reed, Missi Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Tessa Reed, Brittany Horton, Chelsea Horton; great-grandchildren: Emma Reed, Parker Reed, Boston Reed, Kourtney Nelson, Brooklyn Nelson, Josalyn Nelson, Kambrey Vincent, Jayden Nichols, Payton Nichols, Colby Nichols, Skylar Nichols, Gavin Morris, and Cadence D'Angelo; and son-in-law, Elvin Horton and wife Thelma.
