Janet Tietz passed away on Friday, February 15th, 2019, at the age
of 74.
The daughter of Joseph and Ann Medvecz Petska was born July 8th, 1944 in Hammond, Indiana. As a young girl she was raised in Hammond where she later attended Morton High School. She graduated as a member of the class of 1962. After high school she attended the Chicago School of Banking. This led her to begin her working career at a Savings and Loan company in Miller, Indiana. A short time later she took a job working in the coal department for Inland Steel. There she would meet Henry Tietz. They would begin dating, and married on Augusst 12, 1967 in East Chicago, Indiana. The newly wed couple remained in Indiana until moving to Claremore in 1968. Once in Claremore, Janet left the business world behind and began raising her family. However this didn't mean that Janet quit working. It was also during this time that she began running the family farm known as the Hatchery. It was a local poultry farm that specialized in incubating eggs and selling the chicks. It was such a popular place that Claremore Public Schools brought many students there to learn about incubators and other things involved in raising chickens. After her children were mostly grown, Janet decided to return to work outside of her home. She served as a manager for Cato Fashions, and eventually retired as an office manager for JC Penney.
In her spare time Janet had many hobbies and past times. Over the years she volunteered to coach a local soccer team, without her own child on the team. She was an avid bowler, participating in many local leagues over the years. She enjoyed fishing and camping trips with her family all over the country. However her true love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren Abby and Ethan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ann Petska.
Survivors included her husband Henry of the home; daughter, Monica Vance and husband Rob of Cooke City, Montana; sons, Karl Tietz of Tulsa and Erik Tietz and wife Melissa of Claremore; grandchildren, Ethan and Abigail Tietz, brother, Joe Petska and wife Joyce of Tucson, Arizona, nephew, David Noss and nieces, Cindy Lindh, Nan Milavsnic, Julie Forstythe and Jill Cable and families.
