Janie Lea Duncan

April 5, 1936 — June 25, 2013

Janie Lea Stiger Duncan, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and cherished friend to many passed June 25th, 2013 surrounded by family and loved ones at St. John Hospital at the age of 77.

The daughter of John Franklin and Lora Etta (Chambers) Stiger was born April 5, 1936, in Claremore, Oklahoma. She grew up in the Sequoyah area, where she loved playing basketball and enjoyed horseback riding. On July 11, 1953, she married Bill Jack Duncan in Nowata, Oklahoma. They made their home in Claremore until 1962 when they moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker, and worked for several years as a postal carrier. Janie enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, quilting, needlework, crocheting, cooking for family and friends and caring for her beautiful roses. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #140 in Broken Arrow. Janie served as Grand Lecturer for the State of Oklahoma in 1980 - 1981. Janie loved her travels during her term as Grand Lecturer and made many lifelong friends along the way.

Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Duncan in 2007; daughter, Jill E. Duncan in 1977; her parents, John and Lora Stiger; brother, John Stiger, Jr.; and grandson, Scott St. Clair.

She is survived by her children: Bill J. Duncan, Jr. and wife, Pat of Broken Arrow, John S. Duncan and wife, Laura of Broken Arrow, Lori J. Duncan, Chelsea, and her beloved dog, Patches; Brothers: Bryan Stiger of Claremore, Richard Stiger and wife, Eunice of Claremore, and Bill Stiger and wife, Brenda of Talala; Sister-in-law, Elsie Stiger of Mounds; Grandchildren: Laura Beth Barrett and husband, Craig, Katie Dietrich and husband, Tim, Jennifer A. Duncan, Russell St. Clair, and Jacob Duncan; Great-grandchildren: Olivia Trinh, Megan St. Clair, and Cody St. Clair; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Home in Claremore, Sunday, June 30, from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., and family will greet friends 2:00-4:00 p.m.

A celebration of her life remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 1, at Claremore Assembly of God with Pastor Daniel Bankston officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory.
