Jean went to be with the Lord after a short illness on Thurs., March 10, 2011, at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, at the age of 78.
The daughter of Burl and Ludia Parris Painter was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Haleyville, AL. Jean made her home in Tulsa, Sequoyah and Alluwe before moving to Chelsea in 1987. She was a homemaker after many years of service cleaning apartment in Tulsa. Later she became a loyal employee of Burgess Norton Mfg. Co where she enjoyed working from 1979 until her retirement in 1990. Jean was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in AL, later attended First Christian Church of Chelsea before attending church with her children at Grace Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Jean enjoyed her years of retirement collecting strawberry décor, and crocheting beautiful tablecloths, dollies, afghans and bedspreads for her family. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She excitedly welcomed her family with open arms and hugs that would take your breath away. She loved her children, grandchildren, and daughter-in-laws and was proud to tell anyone how much she loved them.
Jean in preceded in death by her husband of 47 yrs. Edwin Riddle, infant son Ronald, great-grandson Jamison Riddle, parents, 4 sisters, and one brother.
She is survived by her husband Theodore Phelps of the home, sons Royce and wife, Sherri, Chelsea, Guy Nell and wife Donna, Montgomery, AL, Russell Riddle and wife Bobbette, Claremore, step-son’s Allen Phelps and wife Cassidy, Wagoner and Richard Phelps, Panama, OK. Jean has 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren that will miss her bright smiles and laughter.
