Jean Price Weyler

January 6, 1931 — May 20, 2019

Jean Weyler of Claremore passed away at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa on Monday, May 20, 2019. She was 88 years old.

Jean was born in Muncie, Indiana, on January 6, 1931, the daughter of Donald Abbott Price and Helen Virginia (Bray) Price. She had one older brother and four younger sisters. As a child she loved playing sports, riding horses, and being outdoors. She grew up and attended school in Muncie, graduating from Burris School with the class of 1949. During high school she participated in Girl Scouts, basketball, volleyball, yearbook, cheerleading, band, and orchestra. She was voted Best Girl Athlete of her graduating class. After high school Jean attended Ball State University and Northwestern Medical School in Chicago where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and a member of the diving team.

While at Ball State in 1950, Jean met Jack Weyler. Following his discharge from the military in 1953, they were married at College Park United Methodist Church on November 22, 1953. Jean became Chief Physical Therapist at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, putting Jack through his last year of college. She later was the designer and director of the physical therapy department at Caylor-Nickel Clinic in Bluffton, Indiana.

In 1967 the family moved to Bixby, Oklahoma, where Jean was a homemaker, secretary at Bixby First Methodist Church for a short time, and employee at a Tulsa Sears store. In the late 1980's, Jean and her family moved to Claremore, her home ever since.

Jean was the glue of her family. She was always willing to help anyone who needed help, but she preferred to remain behind the scenes. In her spare time Jean had many hobbies and pursuits. She was a lifelong learner taking piano lessons as an adult, and adult continuing education classes such as sculpting and art. She enjoyed golf, painting, gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, and sculpting. Throughout her life she volunteered in many capacities which included: Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, active involvement in her church, and the Aladdin Club president in Claremore. However, she treasured time with her family most of all.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, brother Dr. Robert Price, sister Phyllis Bradley, and daughter Karen Sue Weyler.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Jack; daughter Kimberly Spurlock (Keith), son Todd Weyler (Anne); grandchildren Andrew Spurlock, Brooke Lyons (Micah), Christine Smith (Maj. Antone), and Matthew Weyler; great-grandchildren Elijah, Finley, and Margot Lyons, and Emorie and Ryker Smith; sisters Joyce Johnson, Carolyn Price, and Judy Raisor.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, at First United Methodist Church in Claremore. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be at MMS-Payne Funeral Home on Thursday, May 30, from 1-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers Jean would be thrilled to have donations made to the First United Methodist Church of Claremore Children's Building Fund.
