The son of Adis and Ruby Collie Pittman was born November 7, 1942 in Newport, Arkansas. As a young boy he was raised in the Farmington area. There he would attend Farmington schools, graduating with the class of 1960. After graduation he entered the United States Navy. Upon his discharge he returned home to Arkansas. Quickly he found work, and began his career as a long haul truck driver.

One evening while in Fayetteville, he met a young University of Arkansas student named Jeanne Berkemeyer. They would marry on September 4, 1971. The new couple made their home back in Jerry's hometown of Farmington. Jerry continued working as a truck driver for the next several years, before moving to Inola in 1978. He then began working with his brother Vernon in Tulsa as a carpet salesman, and also helped work on the Berkemeyer pecan orchard. After many years of selling carpet, he decided to go back to driving a truck, and a short time later Jerry was back on the road. After a few more years on the road Jerry retired in 2012.

In his spare time Jerry had many hobbies. Gardening was one of his favorites. He had a very extensive flower garden as well as a huge vegetable garden. He also enjoyed reading all kinds of books with history, westerns and mysteries being among his favorites. There were also the trips to the family cabin in Minnesota. Then during football season it was watching the Razorback and the Oklahoma State Cowboys that got lots of his attention.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Adis and Ruby Pittman; sister, Hazel Lawrence, and best friend Johnny Waldon.
