Jerry L. Towe passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the age of 69.
The son of Glen L. and Lola Roach Towe was born February 28, 1946 in Mazie, Oklahoma. He was raised just west of Inola on the family farm. As Jerry grew older he became more and more interested in the family business. So as entered Inola High School he was very active in the Future Farmers of America. After graduating with the class of 1964 Jerry attended school to become a diesel mechanic. Then when he finished, he took a job working for General Electric in Western Oklahoma. After a short time there, he was called to serve in the United States Army. He became part of the 101st Air born and made the rank of sergeant. Upon completion of his duty and tour in Vietnam Jerry was discharged. At that time he returned home to Inola. Where he began working as a mechanic for a local coal company. However he could never get farming out of his blood, so he continued to help run the family farm. Later Jerry gave up the mechanic business and dedicated all his work to farming and ranching. He was know to occasionally sleep under the tractor, so he could work just a little longer, or start just a little earlier.
Jerry was known locally as a man who would help anybody in need. To his family he was the gentle giant, who's eyes would light up when his children and grandchildren arrived.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Lola Towe; Jerry is survived by his wife of 35 years Gayle Towe of the home; brother, Jimmy Towe; sister, Carol Ann McGuire, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, 2 aunts and a host of cousins and many other extended family.
Memorials may be made to the Inola Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 913, Inola, Oklahoma 74036 or the Claremore Disabled American Veterans, 801 W. Dupont Street, Claremore, Oklahoma 74017.
