Memorial service for Jewel Marie Clay will be Sunday, September 25th, from 4p to 7:30p, at Inola Senior Citizens Center.
Jewel passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at her home at the age of 60.
The daughter of James Ray "Jim" Burris and Ella Mae (Whitson) Burris was born February 1, 1956, in Reno, NV. Jewel was raised in California, and lived in northeastern Oklahoma and Missouri before moving to Tulsa around the age of 14. In the early 80's she moved to Inola, and continued her education at Rogers State College where she earned her Associates degree. She went on to graduate with her Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Northeastern State University.
In 1999, Jewel met Jimmy Dewayne Clay. They made their home in Tulsa, before moving to Claremore four years ago. They were married in 2001 in Arkansas, and renewed their vows in 2012 in Claremore.
Jewel enjoyed watching TV, and recording movies. She was a collector of many things, and had a big selection of VHS tapes and DVD's. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was a free spirit that will be missed by many. She always considered herself to be a "House Goddess", and was treated as such.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of the home; children: Jamella "Jami" Puffett and husband, Tony of Claremore, and Joel "Joey" Lorett and wife, April of Liberty; step-sons: Joseph Don Clay of Claremore, and Brent Clay of Nowata; siblings: Elsie Mann and husband, Albert of Inola, Robert Green and wife, Debbie of Moodys, Carl Burris and wife, Judy of Coweta, and Billy Burris of Albuquerque, NM; step-brother, Steve Burris; and grandchildren: Haunaka Rae Rivas, Melanie Alexis Lorett, Riley Xavier Lewis, Jocelyn Bree Lorett, Elza James Puffett, Allison Paige Puffett, Logan Nash Puffett, Riley Jo Clay, and Jessie Clay.
