Funeral service for Jewel S. Starr will be 1 p.m., Fri., July 18, at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Paul Simpson and Chaplain Bishop Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Wann Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Jewel passed away Tues., July 15, 2014, at her home at the age of 92.
The daughter of Thomas "Tom" and Naoma (Winn) Milligan was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Stigler. She attended a Whisenhunt school, a small country school in Oologah, before going to Oologah schools. On May 13, 1950, Jewel married Jack Cale Starr in Tulsa. She worked as a cafeteria manager at Claremont Elementary, retiring after 22 years of service. She was a talented seamstress and also sewed for teachers and her children. Jewel was an active member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church and their Bible school. She was also active with the Night timers HCE (Home, Community, and Education). Jewel enjoyed sewing, canning and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; daughter, Jeraldean King; parents; brother, Doyle Brewer; and sisters: Irma Jean Watkins, Laverna Blakley, and Aillene Coon.
Survivors include her children: Carl Cox and wife, Carol of Stockton, MO, Jacqueline Starr of Oswego, OR, and Judy Ann Starr of Claremore; siblings: Noble Brewer and wife, Bonnie of Oologah, and Joyce Light of Claremore; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
