Funeral service for Jim G. Light will be 11 a.m., Fri., April 13, at First Baptist Church of Oologah with Rev. Weldon Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Wann Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Jim died Mon., April 9, 2012, at his home at the age of 72.
The son of Loyd Jesse and Eula Mae (Phillips) Light was born May 15, 1939, in Huntsville, AR. Jim graduated from Sequoyah High School, and later received his Master's of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He surrendered to the ministry on Jan. 3, 1970, and was ordained on May 23, 1971, at Clear Fork Baptist Church in Weatherford, TX. Most of Jim's ministry he was a bi-vocational pastor. He pastored for 40 years in seven churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and Oregon; including 13 years at First Baptist Church of Oologah, and 2 years at Sageeyah Baptist Church. Jim was currently a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church.
On May 23, 1959, he married Joyce Von Brewer in Claremore.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, Loyd.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home; children: Dianne Estes and husband, Warren of Claremore, Todd Light of Foyil, and Michelene Bess and husband, Sonny of Belton, TX; mother, Eula Mae Light of Claremore; sister, Rosetta Kellehan and husband, Sid of Claremore; grandchildren: Jared and Hannah Estes of Claremore, Daniel Kistler of Foyil, Ashley Light of Tulsa, Lauren Light of Owasso, Tyler Light of Claremore, and Danielle and Coby Bess of Belton, TX; great-grandchildren: Myranda Kistler of Claremore, and Ella Smith of Tulsa; nieces: Pam Davis and her husband, Paul of Chelsea, Kim James-Castle and her husband, Tom of Claremore; and great-nephews: Josh James of Claremore, and Shane Davis of Chelsea.
