Jimmy Ray Peters passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the age of 69.
The son of Joe and Mildred Brown Peters was born November 25, 1947 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. As he became older he attended Wynnewood High School. There he became an all-state football player, helping his team win the state championship in 1965. After graduating in 1966, Jimmy accepted a scholarship to play football for the University of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, during the all-state game, Jimmy injured his knee and missed his freshman year. However it wasn't all bad for Jimmy. It was also during this time that he married Terry Readnour, Eventually the newlywed couple would move to Lawton, where Jimmy would finish out his football career at Cameron University. There he would also graduate with a degree in education.
Jimmy began his working career as the head football coach at Grandfield, Oklahoma. Over the next several years he would take a few other coaching jobs around the area. However, in 1976, he left coaching and became the high school principal for Garber High School. Then in 1979, he took the same position at Inola High School. After serving several years as principal, Jimmy then took the job as Superintendent until retiring. His retirement was only temporary, and Jimmy began building homes in the Inola and surrounding areas. His health eventually forced him to retire for a second time.
In his spare time Jimmy enjoyed fishing, carpentry work, and watching OU football. However, spending time with his family was his pride and joy.
He is preceded in death by his father Joe Peters and sister, Treva.
Survivors include his wife Terry; Son, Matthew Peters and wife Heather; grandchildren, Brett and Katie, all of the home; mother, Mildred Bell and husband Eldon; sister, Sandy Prather of Decatur, TX, brother and sisters-in-law, Edward and Bonnie Nelms and Sharon Williamso, along with many nieces and nephews and friends.
