Joan Mary Faas was born on November 4, 1940 in Watertown, New York. She was the youngest of 8 children born to Laura and Frederick Bestor. She passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the age of 79.
Growing up Joan was very athletic and competed in several different sports. At Watertown High School she was on the Ski Team, the Archery Team, she played Field Hockey and was part of her senior year Championship Basketball Team. After High School she decided to join the U.S. Navy where she met and married Douglas Faas. The two were happily married for more than 59 years.
Joan loved the outdoors. She was an avid golfer, loved swimming and spent a lot of time at the beach camping with her family. She was also a very talented artist and was very creative and perfected many different crafts. She loved to draw, crochet and paint ceramics. She also made several stained-glass pieces including intricate clocks. She was quite good at wood working and would often give her creations to family and friends.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Faas, her children, Louis Faas and wife Pam, daughters Cynthia Faas Cook, Geraldine Faas and Dorothy Faas, along with five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Bestor. The Family will have a celebration of life on the 4th of July at the family residence.
