Funeral services for E. Joan Shaw will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018 at 1st United Methodist Church, Chelsea with burial to following at the Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14th at the Chelsea Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Evelyn Joan Shaw passed away Sunday, June 10 at her home in Chelsea.
Joan, the daughter of Raymond "Jack" Evert Mattox and Irene Marie (Harshman) Mattox was born February 6, 1931 in Kansas, Ohio. Joan spent her childhood in Fostoria, Ohio. She graduated in 1948 from Arcadia High School. After graduating, she moved to Findlay, Ohio. There she met and married Bob Christman and had a son, Michael. She worked as a Design Artist for North American Aviation during the Apollo Space Missions. Her first marriage ended in 1953. On December 21, 1957 she married the love of her life, Norman Shaw in Chelsea, Oklahoma, where they made their home until moving to California in 1962. Joan, being an excellent vocalist and pianist, was asked to play and sing at many weddings and funerals in town. Her vocal range was amazing. They returned to Chelsea in August of 1992. Her hobbies included oil painting on canvas, as well as saw blades. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her loving heart, and devotion to her family.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents; baby son Norman Shaw, Jr.; her brother Ronnie, and sisters Nancie and Marilyn.
Survivors include her husband Norman; son, Michael Christman and wife Kimberly of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Robert Christman of Shoreline, Washington, Misty Lee Ward of Riverside, California, and Jillian Christman of Austin, Texas; and 4 great-grandchildren.
