Roy Joe Dewey the son of Lewis and Maggie Tyler Dewey was born February 25, 1932 in Torrington, Wyoming. As a young boy around the age of two he and his family moved to the Chelsea area. He was raised east of Chelsea in the Greer community As he became school age, he first attended Bugscuffel school then Catale. Then as he became older his responsibilities on the family farm grew, and took up most of his time. However with the outbreak of the Korean War, Joe was called to serve in the United States Army. After his discharge in 1955, Joe moved to Arizona to join up with his parents. He quickly found work, and settled in in Arizona. A short time later Joe found himself helping his grandparents move back to Chelsea. It was during this trip that he met Dorothy Bell Mouton. It was truly love at first sight. They would marry on November 12, 1955 in Gilbert, Arizona. They made their home there for the next few years. Then around 1962 Joe and his family moved to Chelsea. He began working for Orville Reagan, a local rancher. This is where he was first introduced to the trucking business. In no time at all Joe found himself owning and operating Joe Dewey Hay Trucking. For the next several years Joe continued driving a truck. However, a shoulder injury slowed him down in the late 1980's. He officially retired in 1991. After retirement Joe and Dorothy began traveling. They split their time between Oklahoma and New Mexico, visiting children and grandchildren. Driving to camp meetings were a few of their favorite destinations. They actually made the Junction City, Texas camp meeting for seventeen straight years.
In his spare time Joe enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He also liked playing with his two dogs, Corky and Sugar. However his true love was the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
