Memorial service for Joe Freeman will be 4 p.m., Wed., Aug. 27, at First United Methodist Church, 1615 Hwy. 88, Claremore, with his nephew, Pastor Lee Morgans officiating.
Joe passed away Sat., Aug. 16, 2014, at Hillcrest Hospital South, Tulsa, at the age of 78.
The son of John and Donie E. (Stone) Freeman was born March 31, 1936, in Claremore. He attended Claremore schools graduating from Claremore High in 1954. Joe began working at a young age. His first job was working at Bells Confectionary, during that time he also helped report the sporting news for the Claremore Progress. As he became older Joe began managing the Cardinal Lounge and later the club at the Elks Lodge. For the most part Joe has lived and worked in Claremore. However he did move to Coffeyville, KS, for a short time where he managed Long John Silvers. He then moved back to Claremore where he went to work for the Claremore schools as a custodian at Will Rogers Junior High. He also volunteered and worked at the Belvidere Mansion. Joe's passion was sports. He loved cheering for the Detroit Tigers, Duke basketball, TU football, Dallas Cowboys, and his hometown Claremore Zebras. Joe also looked forward to his monthly high school class gatherings at Eggbert's. He was a friend to many and loved by all.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: J.M., J.C., and Ray Freeman; and sisters: Inez McElwain, Pauline Blankenship, and Lucille Kilpatrick.
He is survived by his nieces, Judy Cutsinger and husband, Bob of Claremore, Jan Morgans and husband, Lee of Owasso, Deanna Freeman Earl of England, and Patty Francis Freeman Repka and husband, Richard of New Mexico; nephews, Jim Kilpatrick of Claremore, Michael Francis Freeman and wife, Amy of New Mexico, John Francis Freeman of New Mexico, John Freeman and wife, Peggy of Detroit, MI. and Ray Francis Freeman and wife, Arriana of Washington; sister-in-law, Mildred Freeman of Claremore; best friend, Jerry Fry of Claremore; and a host of dear friends and family.
