Memorial service for John Maurice Burrow will be 10:00a.m., Friday, October 7, 2016 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, October 6 from 1pm--8pm, family will receive visitors from 6pm--8pm. John passed away at Wood Manor Nursing Home on Monday, October 3, 2016. He was 92.
Born June 12, 1924 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Robert Guy Burrow and Leah Odell Parenteau Burrow, John was reared and educated in Joplin, Missouri. He graduated from high school in 1942 and continued his education by attending Joplin Jr. College. John enlisted with the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Oklahoma and took advantage of the G.I. Bill and furthered his education at the University of Oklahoma. While there he earned a Bachelor's Degree in business and marketing and minored in business law and finance. On October 18, 1951, while stationed at Otis Field, John married Eunice Ann Correia in a New Bedford, Massachusetts ceremony,. The couple returned to Norman where John began working on his Master's Degree. He was also working for a tire company that later moved him to Pawhuska for a time. John joined the National Guard and began his career as the Unit Administrator in Nowata, later moving to Claremore. When he retired from the Guard, John worked part time at RCB Bank.
A hard worker, John loved being around people. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and dominoes with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed dancing with his wife to Big Band music. John also was a life long fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, and often watched them play. He was most proud of his family, especially those grandchildren, three of which he was able to attend their graduations.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice, brother Robert Guy Burrow Jr. and a sister Marthanne Root.
Those family members that survive include his children Marty Rott and husband Larry of Oologah, John Burrow and wife Suzanne of Broken Arrow and Dana Johns and husband Chris also of Oologah; grandchildren Hunter Whitford, Spencer Whitford and wife Jentri, Brooke Burrow Smith and husband Trey, and Zac Burrow and wife Megan; great grandchildren Noah and Madison Smith, Mikayla Thomas, and Ryker and Caden Miller; step-grandchildren: Michaela Rott and Nichole Rott; and great-grandchild, Abbie Ayers.
