John McCoy Hendricks, died April 7, 2016, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Vian, Oklahoma on July 6, 1930, to Eli and Peachie Hendricks.
He is survived by six children: Ralph, Mary Merriman and James Glenn, Charlene and Morgan Dowell, Melinda Mendenhall and Jimmy Carson, all of Claremore, John Hendricks Jr and Janet of Chelsea and Cheryl Methvin of Chanute, Kansas. He is also survived by his siblings Emma Jean Wilson, Elizabeth Padgett, Marcus Hendricks Sr., Vincent Hendricks and Nancy Dobbs. In addition he has 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
John was a man of faith to his Native American traditions, an avid fisherman, coach and supporter of little league and American Legion teams in Claremore. He enjoyed and valued being with family and friends, especially through the annual fish fry’s he hosted celebrating his birthday.
John was preceded in death by his wife Colleen of 55 years, his parents, brothers Charles and Eli Jr, sisters Wanna Lou Barton and Charlene Hendricks.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m.- 8 p.m. Mon. at Agent Funeral Home, Sallisaw, with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m.; and 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 at Christ United Methodist Church, 315 S. Davis, Claremore. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Claremore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Nighthawk Keetoowah Society in John’s honor and can be left at Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma or MMS-Payne Funeral Home in Claremore, Oklahoma.
