Services celebrating the life of John Michael Hipp of Claremore will be Monday, August 5th at 11:00 am at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. Family will greet visitors from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Sunday, August 4th, at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel.
John was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 20, 1940 to Max Nathaniel Hipp and Grace Lenore [Gosnell] Hipp. He was one of eight children. John passed away early Tuesday morning, July 30, 2019. After becoming a widower, he married Marjorie Ruth Gouard Hardison. This union began with 7 daughters; adding one more created a home of 9 females and one guy. He loved all his girls very much. He was a quiet, gentle man and generous with his time and love. He always worked hard for his family. He had a long career working for Safeway/Homeland in their warehouse.
After being a caddy in his youth, John was an avid golfer most of his life. He spent many hours golfing with his lifelong friend Troy Wiley. In addition to golf, John and Marjorie bowled for many years with family and friends. They traveled all over the U.S. to bowl in tournaments. They enjoyed going to country music shows and made many friends there. John and Marjorie were married over 50 years. Marjorie passed away May 13, 2015.
He was preceded in death by daughter Sheryl Chambers, his parents, first wife Georgia May Swinney Hipp, and brothers Hugo, Art, Allen, Bill, and Leslie Hipp.
He is survived by daughters Ruth Medrano of Haughton, LA., Beverly Jones and husband Willie, Deborah Roach and husband Eddie, Jennifer Granger, Vickie Mullikin and husband Rusty, Cindy Hipp, and Pamela Taylor and husband Tim, all of Claremore. Also survived by sister Nora Cooper and brother Wesley Hipp. John was the proud "Pa" to 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
